PolicyWe organize and manage our security programs in accordance with the needs of the organization, our regulators, key stakeholders, and in accordance with the requirements of the Government of Canada’s security policies, applicable statutes and regulations.
We comply with the regulations in the Canadian
Nuclear Safety and Control Act
pertaining to the application of International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards arising from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
We undertake assessments of threats and risks in order to help determine and establish necessary security and physical protection requirements.
We conduct regular audits of our security programs to measure compliance.
We maintain processes to ensure that our employees, contract personnel and others requiring access to AECL facilities and using AECL assets and data have the appropriate security clearances.
We provide physical and electronic protection against unauthorized access to AECL’s nuclear and non-nuclear facilities and to nuclear materials that are used, processed, stored or possessed by AECL.
We maintain processes to prevent unauthorized disclosure, destruction, removal, modification or loss of classified, sensitive, designated or valuable assets.
We assure continued delivery of services through baseline security processes, including continuous security risk management and business continuity planning.
Effective DateThe policy is authorized by the AECL Board of Directors and became effective on 2004 March 26.
