NRU temporarily out of service - Isotope production maintained

Chalk River Information Bulletin

(2010 August 30) The following information bulletin is in accordance with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).

AECL reports that the NRU reactor has been temporarily taken out of service to repair the temperature controls for a moderator heat exchanger. It is expected that repairs will be completed within 36 hours. Isotope production will not be impacted during this period and it is anticipated that 100 per cent of isotope demand for the current week will be maintained.

AECL has notified the Government of Canada, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, as well as MDS Nordion of this temporary interruption to service.

AECL will provide an update as new information becomes available.
