Loss of a Chalk River Laboratories Colleague

(2012 April 18) The following information bulletin is in accordance with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).

Early in the morning of April 18, AECL’s emergency services responded to a medical emergency in a parking lot at the Chalk River Laboratories. After receiving emergency aid, an AECL employee was transported to the Deep River District Hospital by the Renfrew County Ambulance Service. The employee was later pronounced dead.

Regulatory authorities, including Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, have been notified.

Employees are being provided on site access to confidential counselling through AECL’s Employee and Family Assistance Program.
