AECL-CRL staff make history at Renfrew County Relay For Life
Chalk River, 2009 July 03 — History was made by the Chalk River Laboratories’ (CRL) staff that participated in the 10th anniversary of the Renfrew County Relay For Life on Friday, June 5.
Over 40 employees from six different CRL teams worked together to raise $21,549.14 - which is the most money raised for this event by CRL!
Dave Henderson, Fundraising Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, Renfrew County explained, “This amount has never been raised by a single group in the history of the Petawawa event!”
“The staff who donated to the cause helped the CRL teams raise an astounding amount,” said Jennifer Sterling, CRL Relay For Life Coordinator. “I cannot thank the partnered teams and everyone at CRL who donated enough for their sincere generosity to the Relay For Life. Teamwork is key in making events like this successful. We can always count on CRL staff to work as a team at work as well as in the community.”
CRL partnered teams put a lot of time and effort into their fundraising activities that were held at CRL and in the community. The partnered teams organized a car wash, sold raffle and 50/50 tickets, sold key chains and ice cream, gave ZUMBA classes and collected pledges. The following teams contributed to the hard work accomplished in raising funds: AECL Nuclear Knights, Not Just Janitors, Recycle Rascals AECL, AECL Misfitz, North Renfrew Rotary Dream Team II and Chicks n’ Hicks.
As a long-standing supporter of the Renfrew County Relay For Life, CRL is pleased to have contributed to the $305,000 that was raised at the 2009 event held at Dundonald Hall, CFB Petawawa.
