Working together to ensure the safety and security of Canadians: AECL and CFB Petawawa participate in training exercise
(December 13) AECL has been neighbours with Canadian Forces Base Petawawa for over 60 years, and during this time the two organizations have taken great pride in ensuring the safety of Canadians. On Monday, November 14, AECL’s Nuclear Response Force (NRF) officers and soldiers from the 1 RCR 1st Battalion from CFB Petawawa joined forces to complete a training exercise together on site at the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL). AECL Employees Break Workplace Charitable Campaign Fundraising Record
(December 07) AECL’s annual Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) wrapped up its fundraising efforts on November 10, 2011, where it was announced that their $15,000 goal was reached and surpassed. This is the first time that AECL’s Whiteshell Laboratories has run a two-week campaign with outstanding results; employees raised $15,375 breaking the site record. More
AECL Employees Break Renfrew County United Way Fundraising Record
(November 28) AECL’s United Way campaign wrapped up its fundraising efforts on November 18, 2011, where it was announced that their $100,000 goal was reached and surpassed. The final total of funds raised over two weeks of effort and employee support was $112,817. This breaks all previous fundraising records by any company for the Renfrew County United Way (RCUW). More

Another International Project For CANDU
(August 25) AECL signed formal agreements today with Nucleoeléctrica Argentina Sociedad Anónima (NASA), operator of Argentina’s Embalse Nuclear Generating Station, to begin work on the retubing and refurbishment of the station’s CANDU reactor, which is designed to allow the power plant to operate for an additional 25 to 30 years. (April 11) Further to the situation that is occurring in Japan, the CNSC has issued a request for action pursuant to subsection 12(2) of the General Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations requiring specific actions to be taken by all major nuclear facilities in Canada. This includes all nuclear power plants as well as AECL’s Chalk River Laboratories. More
