AECL is committed to ensuring that privacy protection is considered in the course of its programs and activities involving the creation, collection and handling of personal information.

A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is a project-base assessment designed to evaluate and identify any potential privacy risks. This assessment assists in assuring Canadians that privacy principles are being taken into account before, and during the design, implementation and evolution of programs or activities involving personal information.

The Directive on Privacy Impact Assessment makes it mandatory to document, publish and maintain a PIA for all federal programs and services that may have an impact on privacy rights.
